Its pairing with I Want to Tell You was totally unexpected and got everyone excited. Foolish Heart was played for the first time since Sept. This was the last year the Shoreline center parking lot was open (the center lot was the one immediately outside the venue and thus the most happening scene) and the scene was wonderful.Ī nine-song first set made us think that the band had really come to play. I can't even begin to remember how many kind folks we met that weekend. A friend and I took the day off work and proceeded to spend the day (and most of our weekend, for that matter) sitting or strolling in the Shoreline parking lots for hours before each of the three shows. July 1st, 1994, was a sunny summer day spent lazily by the bay. Playing in the band into drums was very good, with hints of china doll near the end, and the attis is very nice. Most of the second set tapes I have from that tour don't even fit on a 10 min tape! without encore! Lots of psychadelic sounds and jamming. They all dabbled in whatever so who cares? The show and the west oast summer tour 94 was awesome. I'll say that he gave it his best, considering what the world was giving him. I,m not making excuses for him, it's just, he couldn't quit the band or stop touring for various reasons. I'm ust saying most dope addicts are depressed, or going through tough times. If I were Jerry, with all of his genius, and artistic creativity goodness flowing, subject to watching the scene, and his lifes work go in such a negative direction, I would have used smack too, maybe. Everyone knew that on even the best night we would still have to weather a lame vince tune or an easy answers or corinna, etc. The whole scene took on a played out, sold out vibe at times. Most people could do without all the new songs weir and Welnick were playing nightly. As far as I'm concerned they were all partying and there was a resurgance of mainstream popularity. Supposedly he was actually clean and in rehab when he passed. That leaves 4 years and most people who have commented about Garcia's heroin use began again out east, fall 93 and continued till the end. As far as the comment about The Dead not being able to play the more difficult songs in the later days, the brief stay of Hornsby to help Vince settle in were fall 90 thru Halloween 91. Cutler made it more equal sounding vocals overall with more noticible drums throughout. That is why I liked Healy,s mix that would sometimes render him inaudibe and low in the mix. With exception of his cover of Beatles All too Much, all vinces songs, harmonies, solo's and back-up vocals were horrible. Somehow he gets the blame for the downfall but we all know the direction that vince and bob were taking the band. I'm sure everyone was partying, not just Jerry. There were 4 nights off and we all know how loose these home town shoreline shows can get. This follows probably the best show of 94, that being vegas third night.
